At the movies.
AI doesn't know that law firms are law firms yet, so I told it they were movies and asked it to design posters which suited their names.
The results, including garbled text and an aversion to women, are entirely the fault of our future robot overlords.

This may be one of the best ROF posts of all time. Thank you for your service.

This is great!

Shoosmiths one takes the biscuit

This is very good. Best PR material Pinsent Masons has had in years, they should use it.

I want the Davis Polk poster on my wall.
Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d write.

This is the best thing I’ve seen on this site in an age. Top work.
Poor Weightmans.

AI seems to have made every insurance panel firm look like hitmen, which suggests AI achieving sentience is not as far away as we thought

Superb!

17
Very good.
Kirkland being a romcom - they are going to be fuming. They would clearly want a mad men style poster, like the DLA one.
And what is going on with Shoosmiths?

Cooley's looks awesome.

Absolutely brilliant!
The final poster is surprisngly accurate!

Great work by the RoF team.
How did you find these cheesy original fllm posters? They must have been trawled from Turkish and Balkans cinema websites.
Apart from some of the literal use of firms' names (oh dear, Weightmans!) there's definitely some symbyosis between the posters and the firms having read embarrassing (for them) news features and Firm of The Year.
One of the best 'Features' (no pun intended) yet!

Managing Partners across the land will be demanding rebrands on the strength of this. My husband is Senior Partner of one of these - I didn’t know what to get him for Christmas but I’m thinking of reworking his firm’s as a tattoo! Seriously funny - and oddly correct in most cases

Cravath, Weil and Withers are all great.
Absolutely howling at Winkworth Sherwood's!

Why is DWF just a fully generic Star Wars film? Not even, like, an entertainingly weird one. Just the most bog standard thing imaginable.
Agree that Shoosmiths is the winner. The horror ones are also tremendous.
19
14
Agree 10:41. For some reason the AI almost always interpreted initials as ‘Star Wars clone’

Can we have all these gems in high resolution please !

Never knew DLA employed Patrick Bateman.
Also, thought he was into cigars not pipes.

Would love to know the plot of Weightmans …

Poor Travers Smith - spelling doesn’t appear to be one of AI‘s strong points.
Also Weightmans - oh dear, fire the PR advisors for that one!

A better AI poster for WBD would have been a mix of Deliverance and Postman Pat the Movie.

I appreciate the intention with creating these were light-hearted and fun in nature. However, if anything, they demonstrate that there is a long way to go with addressing bias in LLMs. As you've already recognized, the overwhelming majority of posters have (white) men in them, many in sexist-leaning positions of power/exciting/action roles with very little that have women. When women are present, they are predominantly shown in submissive/relegated "love interest" roles. In addition, the Cooley poster is wholly offensive - "cooley" or "coolie" is also a racially derogative term, so having a black person as the main character in the poster with an Asian person standing next to it is wholly inappropriate. It's no coincidence that the LLM chose these particular characters to be related to this name - especially when you see that the other posters overwhelmingly contain white men. As much as some of the artwork the LLM came up with is interesting, it's difficult - indeed saddening - to look at this collection in a positive light knowing these biases are clearly present.

Agreed on the female and white issues - bing has a way to go. However, your point on Cooley is incorrect. 'Cooley' just took it to 'cool'. Bing has a v sensitive filter for offensive content - trust me, it doesn't use racial slurs in its algos.

Please, please, please could you arrange for these to be available for purchase as posters - I would love one for my office (perhaps one for every firm I have been at - their contributions are all excellent!)

Happy to provide the image files for free to those who want them, to print out at leisure.
Management of one firm has already been in touch to order theirs.
NB requests will only be accepted from law firm email addresses, simply because spam is our nemesis.
Just email [email protected] with subject line 'Firm movie'.
Unfortunately the image resolution of the original files is usually 1024px x 1024px, which means they probably won't be much cop on anything larger than A4. I think?

Davis Polk, Dechert, Dentons and DLA Piper. Brilliant!

This is absolutely incredible. Scrolling down, the Cravath one made me loudly snort with laughter. Got some funny looks in the office.

Firm Top Trumps - with these pictures. This should be a thing. Categories as per ROF survey perhaps - with some minor tweaks (e.g. work life balance becomes beasting factor, etc)…
13
10
… oh, and there has to be an “evil” measure on the Top Trumps too

This is true

The Howard Kennedy one really ought to be a farce, a tragedy or a horror movie. It is definitely all those things.
