Does anyone have any useful tips about visiting the university? Will be driving up on a Monday night and staying over. Where’s best to stay and what’s the best way to get to the university. Park and ride?
You’ll not get a car anywhere near that. Stay at the Royal County if you can, walk up the hill and cross the Kingsgate footbridge (by the student union) and it’s just there.
If you stay on the outskirts you could drive to the PnR but you could just as easily drive in and park in the Prince Bishops multi storey.
Not on point but I had a great night in the Wetherspoons there. Quality banter from the locals inc. a grandma, mum, and grandaughter on a night out together combo
Tam, my college was on the Bailey, too. Don’t expect to drive up to John’s. You can walk across the bridge from the Union, turn left onto the Bailey and keep walking!
I was going to suggest The Three Tuns but appaz it's been turned into student accomodation. The County is definitely a good bet and St John's is very walkable from there.
I also have v good memories of Durham. Very beautiful place though bloody cold.
the weirdest thing about Klute is that at some point they got planning permission to punch a hole in the parapet of Elvet Bridge to build its entrance gangway. If I be the planning officer reviewing that one I be like WHAT.

Staying central makes things easier. Maybe just see if there’s any rooms in central hotels with parking. It’s all walkable once you’re in the middle
Which subject/college is miniTam interested in?

Stay at the County if you can, which is right in the centre and has a car park
Getting to the uni - depends which college - all the town colleges plus cathedral and castle are walkable from the County.

After the Court, Id say the (nearby) Dun Cow is the next best pub.

Durham is a decent enough choice. Slightly lower offers that Oxbridge and London (excluding Kings, of course)

‘excluding Kings, of course’
I think it’s still ‘collect 30 crisp packets and have a pulse’ to get into King’s.
