I’m still waiting for my Olympic dividend cheque to arrive.
Ken Livingstone distinctly promised London’s taxpayers that it would make a profit and so I’m waiting to see my share of that profit as a significant (involuntary) investor into the project.
Back then we lo9ked like a ntion that revered graft, resilience, heroism, leadership and lifelong dedication to our country,
You know, this is genuinely quite offensive to the millions of remainers who have all those qualities plus the brains to recognise that Brexit will make us all politically, economically and culturally poorer.
This viewpoint that the "brave Brexiteers" have a monopoly on patriotism is vomit-inducing nonsense. Especially when you look at just how unpatriotic people like Rees-Mogg and Farage actually are. (Judge them by their actions, not their words.)
I fight Brexit precisely because I love my country and want the best for it. I don't want it to be taken over by swivel eyed loons and disaster capitalists who want to turn us all against each other and asset strip the country for their own evil gains.
Fighting against Brexit is the genuinely patriotic thing to do.
I'm reading John Jakes' North and South trilogy at the moment and the Confederates have a lot in common the with Brexiters. You just want to shake them and shout 'WTF were you thinking?!'
I think in 2012 we were named by (a serious international diplomacy magazine I cant remember the name of) as the worlds most powerful nation in terms of "soft power" and influence.
What a joke that seems now we have spent the last three years as a global laughing stock thanks to a bizarre cult of nostalgia and xenophobia that has infected the nation and crippled our status a global leader - very probably for good.
"Seems a large chunk of the public were actually just melodramatic cry babies who would re run every race until they got the result they wanted"
Seems like a small chunk of the public fluked one result by inviting everyone to compete in the decathlon and then declaring that the long jump was the real competition, they won that won and there is absolutely no possibility of this event ever being held again because that is sport and it would defy the will of the people/us if we have the race again, even though the judges found a spring under the board that was only activated when they jumped, and if it ever was run again, which it won't be, no foreigners will be allowed to compete as it is best for UK athletics if only British born honkeys participate as that will ensure we remain competitive for the next olympics.

"Sorry. We Brexiteers are the Union Army and you're in Gone with the Wind."
Actually, I don't think either analogy is apt. In fact, Brexiteers are more like the poor Native Americans trying to reclaim control of their land.

True. In those days, I harboured genuine hopes we might one day leave the EU.

I remember that, Hoolie. We would have watched it on the same day. Can't believe how low we have fallen (ironically due to flag-waving imbeciles).

Maybe it got lost in the post.

It's what happens when you allow religious fanatics to take control of a political party
Our forefathers had the good sense to keep them out

I get my Olympic dividend every time Strutter moans about his having to pay for it. A feeling of bliss fills me.
I do hope London bids for something else soon.

Another thing that makes me feel old alongside finding out that the first Star Wars prequel came out 20 years ago.

Oh God I now have a mental image of Dux in red buckskin assless chaps and a feather headress.

I don't think that goes far enough. I'd like Brexiteers to slaves in the cotton fields of Alabama.
LOL at this being on the same thread as someone branding Remainers melodramatic.

Sails, the only surprise is that you claim this is different from your usual mental image.
