Because it had been filled with gas but never started pumping. I assume because it's not good for the pipeline to not be filled with gas but don't actually know.
I don't understand why the yanks would benefit particularly. Possible it's a false flag I guess and then the Russian's 'discover it was Ukraine' in a week or two and use it as a premise for escalation. We live in interesting times it seems.
"V effective way of stopping Russia getting its 600m Euros a week or whatever it was"
Or, depending on the commercial terms actually agreed, a desperate attempt by Russia to avoid damages of 600m Euros a week or whatever it was, by claiming force majeure ?
1. They had no prospect of gas deliveries in the long run since EU countries are securing other sources / go green. 2. They do not want to supply anyway. 3. It allows them to dodge penalty payments for non-delivery under existing contracts - FM
Russians did it as a warning. “Next time it will be someone else’s pipe. And then the fibre optics cables under the Atlantic.” Possibly as provocation for war and therefore cement Pootin as wardictator for life.

I dunno but I hope Europe is putting an awful lot of naval strength around North Sea gas fields and pipelines.

This feels like a big step towards open warfare between Russia and NATO.

Get warm, complacent, teat sucking Germans to face up to the cold, harsh realities of life?

They should definitely think about reversing the mothballing of this nuclear power stations in Germany.

Is there any actual suggestion it has been blown up?

Yes, see the OP. Heffalump never exaggerates or posts inaccurately.

Yes - 2 x small seismic shocks recorded in the area around that time.

Not if you’re Ukraine it’s not
some special ops boys with some limpet mines in the dead of night
proper boys own stuff

That's very weird. Not clear at all who benefits from that. It's like something out of a bloody bond movie!

It's not stopping Russia getting anything (this one had never actually gone on stream as I understand it).

gee I can’t guess who doesn’t want russia having 600m euros a week
at least we can rule out Iranian arms dealers. We can safely say it wasn’t them.

Pretty sure Ukraine wouldn't want to risk pissing off its allies by doing that
0

If it hadn’t gone on steam how come there are massive gas bubbles emanating from the north sea?

It was already pressurised ready to go onstream

the USA is the other big gas seller
i imagine they are utterly delighted

No way would the Ukrainians be interfering with the flow of gas to the EU FFS.

I’m not a russian bot but it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure that the USA won’t be saddened by this

Guess it's a crap attempt at a false flag

It's a nice way to send a message that Ukraine is quite capable of also blowing up the one that is making money for the Russians. A subtle signal.

Or a drunk Russian has crashed his nuclear sub into and the Russians don't want to admit it's happened.

Ukraine is winning on the ground. The chance of them doing anything to piss off their allies is about 0.0001%

eeyore - yeah maybe, who knows the truth, the fog of war and all that
but let’s be honest if there are 2 gas sellers in town and one suffers a burst pipe the other one isn’t going to be sad..

The Russians had an incentive to do it.
1. They had no prospect of gas deliveries in the long run since EU countries are securing other sources / go green. 2. They do not want to supply anyway. 3. It allows them to dodge penalty payments for non-delivery under existing contracts - FM
