that was a very close seat, wasn't it (607 majority?). By-election will be interesting. Hopefully labour will select someone more credible this time.

In addition to the horror of being called Festus.... why did he get 10 months and her 3?

What a daft thing to do. Why wouldn't you just pay the fine?

Saw this and thought that there’s a slight increase for May to look towards a majority... what an idiot tho.

Think he got longer because he knew someone else who'd tried the same thing and came up with the idea and she then went along with it.
Was she the one who claimed to be just like Jesus and ready to rise again after her conviction?

Wonder if she will try to hang on as an MP?
It would seem to be in character from what we have seen thus far.

What a pity and a shame. As others have said just accept the fine and 3 points, simple. But to jail her for 3 months ,and she will be out in 6 weeks, and three with a tag seems an uneccesary waste of taxpayers money. Far better to give her community service, surely?

There was a thread on here earlier suggesting we should all look up to and respect MPs because they are wiser than us. Pardon? Just the latest in a long line of self-serving imbeciles in my view.

So when do you think her crowdfunding page appears to help pay for her SRA hearing costs?

I guess as an MP and a solicitor she couldn't really be expected to understand the law so probably worth a lower sentence.

She is a complete and utter disgrace.

she already said she would carry on as an mp. the assumption was that therefore that there would be no by election unless the sentence was 12 months or more. It is less than that.
there's some law that doesn't allow mps to hang on if the sentence is more than 12 months.

Any custodial sentence triggers a recall petition in the MP's constituency. If more than 10% of the constituency electorate sign it then there is a by-election.
A custodial sentence of a year or more bars person from sitting and results in an immediate by-election.

My understanding was that she can put off the recall petition by appealing though.
Whereas 12 months would have put her straight out. The sentence is a fvcking disgrace TBH.

any criminal conviction should bar a person from being an MP imo.

Surely she can drive something more stylish than a Nissan Micra, being a Solicitor and MP, she's not low paid or anything

Didnt Howes Percival once market itself as a City firm, that happened to be in the country ?

@Kimmy
Disagree. If it becomes too easy to chuck MPs out then people go round raking stuff up and the results of elections get subverted.
