Easily the most successful British tennis player in modern times and did it with a dry humour and should be saluted. Achieved much more than ‘Tiger Tim’.
It is very moving to watch his press conference then watch footage his Wimbledon win, both of which are in the same BBC article. The highs and lows of elite sport. That's it now. Even if (which ain't happening) there was a miraculous physical healing, the mind has arrived at "don't go on".
Once he won Wimbledon he had fulfilled his duty really. People talked about a big 4 but there was really only ever a big 3 plus an inbetweener. He was unlucky in the sense that in any other era he would have won far more titles.
What 3 bikes said. An astonoshing career in the most competitive scene ever, see Andy Roddick tweet.
He beet Federer 11 out of the 25 times he played him which is I suspect a record almost without equal. In addition to what 3 bikes said did he not also win about 14 master series titles and 30 other world ranking titles. People are talking about Edmund as the next hope, he is no where near on the same level, and I bet will never be.
I suspect the UK will never produce a player of his quality for a generation at least and maybe much more.
A knighthood, three-time Grand Slams , two Olympic golds, the Davis Cup champion the ATP World Tour Finals trophy, the world No. 1 ranking and 62 million in prizes says he was anything but "an inbetweener".
I mean he was an inbetweener between the big 3 and the best of the rest. Such are the achievements of the big 3 in terms of majors won that notwithstanding the impressive achievements he was not quite at their level.
I used to loathe Murray in the early years, but he was only a lad. He's matured into a great bloke, a great dad and has often spoken up in areas he had no need to like gender equality. Fair fooks to him.
Still - given the company he’s keeping at that level that’s pretty bluddy impressive. Wawrinka aside the rest of the tour of have been largely ornamental extras for the past decade.

Didn’t realise he was still playing.
Great player, especially once he got past his tantrum stage. Owes a lot to Ivan Lendl imo who turned him from a moody talent to a winner

Murray has had an astonishing career. To win majors in an era with Federer, Nadal and Djoko is an almost unbelievable achievement.
Biggest challenge for him in retirement will be dealing with no longer being considered in the running for SPOTY :-(

Bloop - I was being sarcastic. SPOTY is a pile of w**k.

All those achievements. And all he brings to mind is Bob Mortimer's vine where he dubbed over James Corden saying "come on Andy - yeah!"

I wonder how quick the phone call was to his agent to discuss becoming a pundit after he retires...

I think that’s the point. It’s not obvious who 1, 2 and 3 are. That a good debate.
Everyone is in agreement on who is 4.

He was number 1 for 37 weeks, when others were at their peak..... And number two for god knows how long.
