I've argued many times that the HoL is a very important institution even when they are unelected.
Recent elevations have changed my mind. There should be a term limit on politically appointed peers. Let them keep the title but their term should last until the next GE
I just did a quick calculation, if every eligiblble peer checked into the HoL today, that would be £250,000. They don't even have to enter the chamber (or stay in the building).
