Had an awful "icebreaker" thing at a work thing the other day and had to come up with two facts and one lie and they had to guess the lie. One fact was that Jeremy Beadle presented me with my GSCE certificate. None of them knew who Jeremy Beadle was.
When doing a presentation on copyright infringement I explained why some musicians make a living producing copycat baselines for sampling purposes, and that the KLF kept getting into trouble for using the originals.
Writing, books and fountain pens, everything being done slower, productions at theatres that have been knocked down; now in University archives as historical productions. I recall them being alive and full of hope and optimism.
When I self-deprecatingly mentioned how it makes me feel old to hear about Kurt Cobain's daughter marrying Tony Hawk's son and the reaction I got was "Who's Kurt Cobain?"
When I did the Bar course I was in my early 40s. There were two young women in my tutorial group. As the morning's work finished one day, I mentioned to the young woman next to me that I was looking forward to getting a sandwich from the bar across the road and then eat it in the sunshine in Lincoln's Inn Fields. She was sweet but not very outgoing. She said that sounded nice and would it be OK if she joined me, of course I said yes.
We got our sandwiches and were munching them on a bench in what was some very pleasant sunshine, and we talked about not a lot.
Because it had happened to me within the previous day or two, I mentioned that I'd heard a song on the radio, and although I hadn't heard it or even thought about that song for 20 years or so, the entire lyrics popped into my head immediately. I said something like 'It's weird when that happens', referring generally to suddenly remembering things you thought you'd forgotten.
She looked me in the eye, deadpan, and said: "I wouldn't know; I'm only 22."
Benj reminds me of someone on my masters in 2009 stressing that they hadn't done an exam for 18 months until I pointed I hadn't done one since the previous millennium.

My first car was a Triumph Herald. 80,663 miles on the clock when I bought it, and took it over the 100. Puddles would form in the passenger footwell.

I remember paying £28 a week for a large room in a nice house, the one with 2 windows centre of this street view:

That was summer '89. Streatham was a bit more stabby then.
