The troubled actor Matthew Newton has found himself in hot water with the US police for the second time this month, after allegedly assaulting a Miami hotel clerk.

The Farscape actor (and almost X-Factor presenter) had his first brush with the US law at the beginning of April when he was arrested for trespass following an incident at a Miami bar. Ten days later, he was caught on CCTV having a lengthy argument with a hotel clerk in a Miami hotel at 4am, which ended with the actor allegedly demonstrating some 'kung fu' moves before punching the clerk in the face. He's now been charged with battery and resisting arrest and faces up to 12 months in jail if convicted, according to a news.com report.

...maybe not to be used on hotel clerks

Newton, who is reportedly bipolar, has had a pretty chequered past, peppered with domestic violence accusations and reports of hotel room trashings. Plus he is also due in court back in Australia within the next few months to face charges in relation to an alleged assault on a taxi driver in Melbourne.

Miami prosecutors have confirmed that they will be investigating the actor's mental health. Meanwhile back in his home country, Newton is quickly gaining a reputation as the Charlie Sheen of Australia. But unlike toubled Sheen, who gave countless interviews about "bi-winning" and embarked on a stadium tour, Newton seems to have now disappeared after giving Miami police the address of a vacant block of flats.
