Uber alternatives in London

I tried Bolt and they were utter, utter shite so I have deleted the app. Kapten next I suppose. Any others? All the others sound a bit dodgy tbh

had a long chat with last Uber driver and he said he's on all the other apps and the software is shit and loads of drivers will be fooked if the appeal is denied.

I have found there are these funny looking old fashioned black cars driving around.  If they have an orange light on and you wave at them they will let you in the back seat and take you for a ride in return for money.  Like some sort of vehicular prostitute.  Also, they will let you listen to LBC and talk about immigration in a pejorative manner so you will arrive at your destination with a slight feeling of shame.

Not many Londoners know this, so keep it to yourselves.

Yes but Wang - those guys have proper liccens and know how to drive round london!

What I want is to save £1.00 and have an unlicenced  sex pest follow the directions off his phone whist shouting in foriegn into his bluetooth headset.

My last Uber driver was Hungarian. Tried to engage in bantz about my trip to Lake Balaton and he just wanted to talk about picking up women.

He also looked like Guile from Streetfighter 2.

Yes we should all use the convenient black cab service where they will charge £50 to go three miles. Provided the 3 miles is in a direction they fancy going in. And doesn't go any further than zone 2. And you're already in central London so there's one to flag down. And you'd better have cash because the card machine is "broken". And you can enjoy two screaming matches with cyclists and some quality opinions about immigrants en route.

That's the quality taxi service Londoners deserve.

I am just puzzled by "woke" libtards crying that they can't give their money to an organisation that exploits it workers, rips off its customers, destroys local competition and shits all over local laws.

yeah, but its 50p cheaper and I don't have to speak to a bloke from London who might have voted for Brexit.

How do I manage it?

But not voluntarily getting into a vehicle with one of the fookers and having to listen to 'I'm not racist, but' while they keep me captive while taking a stupid fooking route to up their fare?

Don’t use gett, they absolutely bumfvck you on “high demand” fees when it’s busy. £9 on my last fare of £15. Apparently this incentivised the (already highly paid) black cab drivers to take the fare. I demanded a refund and haven’t used it since.

Uber is ace. Mostly because they don’t speak to you. I love that.

Is this a new thing? It's been a while but they used to just charge TFL rates. Fcckers.

I’m puzzled by people who are desperate to vote for the Labour great leap backwards but want to keep the bits of exploitation of the workers which are personally convenient for them.  Dim, hypocrites or both?

There's a new uber rival (called Ola) which is due to launch in London in early 2020.  It will hoover up most of he Uber drivers.

Blackcabs are normally aunts.  But I had a lady black taxi man this morning and she was delightful.

Ooh that's cool Jelly as they have that one in Bristol and my m8 raves about it

(thanks also Stixta - but ViaVan is a pool one and I don't like the idea of that)

Ola are a big Indian company. They’re Uber’s main Indian rival. They were able to capitalise effectively on Uber’s (lack of) safety record in India.

I didn’t realise they had already expanded to Europe. But they took a ton of money from SoftBank a while ago so presumably they are putting it to good work now

Don't use gett, they absolutely bumfcck you

I understand there is something called 'Fake Taxi' which also often results in someone getting bumfvcked.

Addison Lee - It works 99% of the time, there are actual people on the end of a phone you can shout at (and who will do something about it) if it doesn't work and the drivers speak English and generally know London reasonably well.

v. expensive for a short journey but if its a short journey just use a black cab or better yet be less of a lazy khunt and walk.

difficult to miss the dogwhistle as to why this particular nondescript rightard doesn’t like certain ppl...

Uber is still much cheaper than a Black Cab, or indeed a Minicab.

I use them regularly and have mainly found them to be excellent. Any issues I have had has resulted in an immediate credit/refund, no questions asked. The convinience of not having to wait for a black cab to take you to where you want to go, or having to phone the mini cab office repeatedly to ask where the driver is can not be overestimated .

I hear the new ones the tech /service is rubbish

the issue with Uber is the timelag - they often have lots of cabs with 2min / 3min tags floating around the area, then you click call/hire/summon or whatever, and it spins out "Contacting Drivers" which takes 2 mins to find one, and then they come up as "4mins away", which invariably takes at least 7, but usually 10.

So your 2-3 minute uber takes 10-14 mins to arrive.  Which would be fine if they were upfront, but when you're doing the "fook - I'm late, I can walk there in 15 mins and be 5 mins late, or take an uber and arrive slightly early" and you end up gettting there at the same time but minus £7.  Meh.

YOu really are a weird little stalky aunt aren't you?

Qs for you? How many ubers have you got where the driver has had english as their first language?

Me: none.

HTH you ocean going bell end.

PS - I note that you had no issue with people claiming all Black cab drivers were racist Brexit voters.

Laz - Uber is the worst example of  a capitalist system that fooks the poor, creates a monopoly, ignores regulations and then fooks over the consumer.

Hating uber is about as far away as alt right could be you silly little man.

every time it's  "fook, I'm late - let's just uber it", it happens.  The Uber yesterday morning was 3 mins away, and after 11 minutes still was 3 minutes away.  It's traffic, and it happens, but I expect the traffic flow data Uber holds is better than anyone else, so it should be more accurate.  Then Uber charged me £6 to cancel, which was auntish (but they refunded it immediately when I complained).  Got a black cab, which was the same price and she was very nice and didn't seem racist at all.

Its almost like they lie to you about how soon they will be there so that you book them...

but no, no business would create a system to systematicaly lie to their customers....

FYI. Bolt's software is so shite that it sent the driver to the destination rather than the pick up point, I called him twice to find out where he was before we established he'd gone to the wrong place. They then charged me a £6 cancellation fee.

Six emails to Bolt (including me having to send screenshots of my attempts to contact the driver) they have refused to refund me, and eventually offered me a £5 credit, when I refused that they offered me £10 credit. Told them to sod off as I had already deleted the app.

At least with Uber when they occasionally fook up they refund you without a quibble

I had a black cab driver tell me that Uber's policy was not to insure their passengers so I should check my own motor policy to be certain that I was covered travelling as a passenger in an uber.  I heard a very similar thing from another black cabbie about 2 weeks after.

That was the point I migrated to Uber.  Plus, it's a terribly paying job, but it's a relatively easy job for an immigrant to get so they can start to provide for their family.

Agreed queenie. A few times I have suggested a route I knew better than the driver or his sat nav, yet the driver insisted on slavishly following the sat nav. I complained and got an immediate refund, no questions asked.

Recently they have offered me 50% discount on my next ten trips up to 20 quid fare.

All the Ubers I have got have spoken perfect english, not that it should matter frankly.

I've had a few British Uber drivers and even the ones where English isn't their first language are usually happy to chat if you want to.

I've also had my fair share of Uber turning up much sooner than expected and having to sprint out of events or the like.

Only once had them go to the wrong place and they were about half a mile out which was partly down to the civilian GPS accuracy.  Better than my local minicab firm who once turned up at my place in London when I was at Gatwick waiting to be picked up.

"All the Ubers I have got have spoken perfect english, not that it should matter frankly."

Because lots have people have said that it does matter haven't they...

Feb 2016:

Uber agreed to pay $28.5 million to 25 million riders after plaintiffs in two lawsuits argued the company misled customers about safety practices.

As part of the settlement, Uber must refrain from using certain superlatives like "industry-leading" or "best in class" when describing its background checks.

My last Uber driver tried to sign me up to his church. What started as friendly chat quickly turned to a detailed description of what it feels like to in the real presence of God and how modern society is run and orchestrated by Satan. 15mins sat outside the venue trying to find a break in his dialogue in order to politely exit the conversation in the most excruciatingly British way.
