Shakespeares has placed secretaries and support staff across the firm into a redundancy consultation.
A spokesman for the firm insisted "very limited" job losses are expected, but refused to say how many positions are under threat. Insiders tell RollOnFriday other redundancies have recently taken place at the firm, and staff are terrified that they'll be next for the chop.
Amongst others, all six secretaries in the Birmingham office's Insurance department are in the consultation after they turned down the offer of alternative roles. The spokesman declined to confirm what the unpopular alternative roles were (pot plants? Blackberry stands?) and, as an insider told RollOnFriday, presumably it will be down to the fee-earners to open their own files, type up bills and send out letters.
The coming job losses follow a succession of mergers by Shakespeares. This year it's snapped up Marrons in Leicester and Newsome Vaughan in Coventry, and it is now second only in size to Wragge & Co in the region. But as other recently merged firms are discovering, redundancies are part of the package. When Shakespeares merged with Harvey Ingram last year, 54 job losses resulted.

I feel sorry for all the people at risk as the job market for secretarial staff is not what it used to be.
I wish them all luck.

In layman's terms haven't put brain into motion before coming out with their comment.
