By the rules it is but still don’t think it’s a good rule. It’s a penalty and a yellow but should it result in a red? I don’t think so but know I’m in a minority.
Agreed Kimmy but between Curry and Cane there were a dozen very similar incidents that resulted in yellows and you'd be hard pressed to argue that the law had been applied consistently across the tournament.
Chinorder, the tragedy is that England probably would have had a decent chance against NZ if we'd held out for an unlikely win last week. Nothing to fear from these tame Haka merchants (unless youre scotland).
RR- agree it isn’t a vintage all blacks but I fear it would have been like 4 years ago in reverse. Winning. The semi taking so much emotionally and physically we didn’t turn up for the final.
Agreed 2019 was shit, but the dreadful drop goal fails in this one, along with the shit "bunker" decisions and general crap play top it for me. Awful quality.
Not sure what barnes was thinking there, SA expect to be able to cheat and get away with it this close to the end of every game - not good form to penalise them like that

it’ll be an amazing string of three victories if ZA (nb the Marshall Hall tendency: not “SA”) take this

Worth noting that if NZ lose by more than a point then England are morally 2nd.

SA the bigger more flagrant cheats imo
NZ mostly just forward passing and holding on.
SA dirty bastards to a man. Good to see them getting a bit back

NZ diving and pleading with the ref. Piss poor.

Is it Aaron Smith or one of the Beegees playing for NZ?

NZ have a no dickhead policy but happy to play people convicted of domestic abuse. fook them the absolute khunts

So the real final was England vs S Africa last week.

They need to review this head contact rule again. No way is that tackle a red card.

Yes it is

It is the rule and the consistency of application that needs reviewing.
Also, Etzebeth just obstructed an obvious try scoring chance and should be taking a 10 minute nap.

Tough to make rugby a safe game I guess

Given tom curry was sent off, Cane’s red was no surprise

Gr8 player but an absolute cast iron dirty cheat straight off the springbok production line

You can make it safer by avoiding a double combo headbutt and clothes lining forearm.

Crikey, NZ need to capitalise on this 14 v 14 moment.

Yes agree about the inconsistency RR. Would have been really annoying if england had lost that game

They’ll keep that yellow I think. Would love it if it went red.

Come on NZ!

It won't go red.

Did you know that there are 8 Barrett siblings in all?

TBF NZ have had too many simple handling errors to win this.

I wish they’d reduce the number of subs. Keep them for injuries rather than tactics. Pick your best team and stick with it.

Another rule that needs reviewing.

ENG would have battered both of these

SA will have to up the gamesmanship, shithousery and general cheating to see this out

Sorry, been battered by both of these

TMO making VAR look like Ultra Edge here.

Really odd. First disallowed try was a travesty, second allowed try was far more dubious. Suppose it balances out.

NZ almost embarrassingly better when it was 14 v 14 - so superior in broken play and with more room on the pitch

Shittest final in living memory so far.

Poor decision to go for the posts. At 14 v 14 take the line out and expect a much easier penalty to come your way.

S. Africa are going to rightfully claim 3 knockout wins by 1 point as a heroic achievement if that is what happens here.

Mooooolaaaaay on the NZ 22.

Yup. It’s getting predictable.

That was a bizarre period of play, esp by S.A. kicking possession back.

How have NZ been so naive?

Would love NZ to get a penalty here.

That tap from Faf too. Wow.

Not sure Barnes had a great game there.
Fair play Saffers, but should have lost all of the knockout games. And yet…

I’ll agree tbf. It even beats the 2019 one with the ridiculous decision making, reffing and handling errors.

A compelling final to watch tbf, but neither team at their best.

It wasn't compelling to watch it was bitty and frustrating with the few good rugby moments overwhelmed by the errors and shithousery from both teams.
Faf's tap tackle though. I hate him.

Amazing it was so close with one team down the fourteen for a chunk of it.

There’s certainly a lesson there for the Irish in terms of handling the knockout phase of the WC.

yep, make sure you cheat all the time because you’ll only get penalised half the time* at most
*doesn’t work for tier 2 teams, obvs
