Magic Grandpa is far too dangerous to describe as merely useless.

Because, like many people, I support the ERG on Brexit but the Labour Party on economic matters.

Why not join a political party ?
(A) Because politix bores are still bores?
(B) Because I don’t need to because I know my local Tory MP anyway socially ? And he is a very distant cousin and I was at school with him?
(C) Because being a local Councillor and Churchwarden is for when I retire not for now?
(D) Because our ghastly FPTP electoral system creates parties of fluid ideas but fixed tribal loyalties which grate badly.
(E) Because there is no party that even remotely reflects my rather eclectic and illogical views on the world? Socially liberal but a supporter of tradition, very keen on education, prefer a mixed constitution, low taxes, better prisons, less BMWs?
(F) Because in the end I am much more interested in public policy than in politics ?
(F1) Because I have better things to do and a living to earn?
(G) Because most current MPs of all parties are absolutely ghastly?
(H) Because if you join a party inevitably in the end someone, somewhere will take that as a licence to shout at you and I don’t like being shouted at ?
(I) Because I have been a member since I was seventeen when I signed up at a point-to-point? So no need to join now?
At any rate, some or all of the above.
