I’ve been turned down (again) for promotion, England were humiliated in the Ashes, Norwich, despite a rare win, are odds on for relegation but I don’t care.
I'm happy... ...I can walk along the coast everyday and take strength from Amphitrite.
I have also discovered that good quality green tea is made immeasurably better by adding a 1/2 teaspoon of local honey... ...I'm drinking it now and that is also making me happy.
I have sharpened a pencil and the smell of that is making me happy...
I have just received a second hand copy of Simon Schama's 'Landscape and Memory'... ...it looks amazing and that has made me happy too.
Thanks Linda. My feelings too! It’s just an inherent problem with our promotion system (in my, very biased, view - I could just be a sh7t copper and not realise it of course)!
E it - depends what your skill set is. If you’re good at board technique then quite a few make it even further in that time. Sgt after 5 yrs then Ins/DI after 10 was always my plan. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I think I’m pretty hot at my job (who doesn’t) and am regularly urged to go for promotion by my senior officers, I suck at board technique.
9 boards in 16 years with only 1 success is not something to be proud of. Not doing it again!
I’ve always been self employed Jim through thick and plenty of thin.
I don’t know which is the causative direction whether optimism imprints self belief or whether you end up soldiering on ‘whatever’ because you think it will all come out in the wash, but I won’t die wondering. And I’d hate to do that.
There's a good book called Timeline by Michael Crichton. Its about a group transported back in time to the Dark Ages.
Most escaped back, but one chose to stay. The others discovered his grave back in the present day with messages written to them. He lived a long and happy life but didn't forget.
Prodders - think you’re on the wrong thread for the cricket (although that often used to be a reason to be cheerful). See above for Orwell’s comment about the dark ages.
Chambers - I enjoyed it but struggle with Crichton’s style. Love his ideas but his writing annoys me.

I think the Dark Ages would have been fascinating.

Bit to the spirit of your post, I may have paid a high price for my life, but wouldn't swap it for the world.

You see this is what happens on the rare occasions Norwich City win.
Well done for beating those Watford aunts though.

We're going to Oxford today. If rof wasn't broken I'd post a gleaming spires pic (it's a bit cloudy tho :/)

Driving 500 miles across 3 states to see some of my partner's family and let them meet the youngest Davos for the first time.
Better be a cold beer and a hot meal at the end of it!

Fair does, Jim, I just thought, albeit wrongly that ten years from Hendon to DI was insane progression.

Are the Board's only interviews? Or do they make you jump through lots of other hoops?

Board is written paper soft then interview.
Enough about that though. Let’s focus on the good things in life. Pizza with the family in front of the TV, life’s still good!

Luigi Bosca Malbec is softening the blow. The WI have still to bat. Plenty of room for pretty out.

There's a film version, but the book is better.
