Why are our trains so bloody awful?

i am on a train that has come from Glasgow and is going to Penzance. It has only 4 carriages (of which one is first class). It's absolutely fooking packed.

What the hell?  So glad I bought a train wine

A lovely gentleman sitting next to me just pointed out that the seat I was in was reserved but that we could jump across the aisle into the only unreservable seats in the carriage. He does this 4 times a week so knows all the tricks.

The horror. The horror

I love those bizarre cross-country train routes and see them advertised and wonder who on earth travels on them and now I know.

I used to work in Southampton for a firm with an office in Bristol and would dread having to go to Bristol as it was always on one of those trains with a handful of carriages that trundles cross country stopping everywhere.

Weirdly I was just thinking about this thread while waiting for a train

Everything between Stevenage and London is fooked

Most things between Doncaster and York are fooked

Trains between Inverness and the rest of the world are fooked

I just saw a train to Aberdeen that is standing room only and some of those passengers are coming from london. London to Aberdeen, about 9 hours. Standing!

THIS SHIT IS INEXCUSABLE

Never mind fooking carbon tax, people need to be able to get from a to b without the birkenau experience.

Same! And I would be willing to accept that this is statistical lucky holiday coincidence except that I can't remember the last time a British train wasn't somehow fooked.

And there isn't even trainwine on weekends :(
