RoF recommends....mattresses?

A new mattress is required at casa de casa - where should I buy it Roffers?

mattresses are a shitty business.  Each big retailer changes the model names so you have no idea if the Delux Monforté at £2400 from BedMonster is any better than the Regal SpringMaster 3000 from MonsterBeds at £2200.  And it's the same fooking thing.

I hated our Vispring but we hung on to it for about 15 years, Mr M liked it.

one time at a hotel we had an amazing bed and stripped the bedding to see what it was, Naturalmat. Turned out they supply loads of hotels and we got one, it is v good. But expensive. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Get a Simba returned one for about £200 (check Wowcher or Ebay outlet). Simba a bit firmer than Eve ones. Think Simba is the which best buy. Both firmer than Ikea. Simba and Eve are fooking heavy so make sure you never want to move them from the floor you put them on.

This is such a personal thing. I'm very happy on a midrange Sealy that would give most rofers crippling status anxiety. It was a bit firm but completely sorted with a £100 topper.

What jelly says about them deliberately making it difficult to compare is true though.

I've bought a few £200 memory foam mattresses (with semi decent reviews) on Amazon and they've invariably been absolutely fine. What do you actually get when you spend several hundred pounds more?

I think part of the problem is that by the time you realise you have an uncomfortable matress you have endured many nights of poor sleep quality and you might well be prepared to pay any amount to rectify the situation. The marketing angle of beds and mattresses reinforces this view.

I got a new one earlier in the year, going to a local independent shop, old school family firm.  Tried them all at leisure. The perfect one was was about 400ish delivered and the old one taken away. Not a clue what make it is, but it was mid range in the shop. Not helpful, but my meaning is, internet shopping is not the best option for a mattress.

I bought the last one from the same man about 12 years ago. He thinks he'll have retired before I need another.

This is the mattress/bed in our current hotel room. £18k in emperor size.

It's comfortable, but IMHO no better than a £1k-ish Hypnos or similar.

The hotel is very aspirational. Booked it as a secret escapes deal. It's a spa hotel full of fat chain smoking Germans who just need to eat less and do some proper exercise and stop believing that some herbal hocus pocus is going to turn them into Claudia schiffer. Rant over.

Now, this is interesting

I did not post this before, but when we bought the naturalmat after a hotel stay in one we also bought a bed because the prev one had broken slats etc and a superking divan bed plus mattress was well under 10k. And I thought that was mental.

I just checked it was just under 5k for superking divan bed, headboard, mattress. Jan 2023. A topper was extra 600 and i said no, see how it is, and no topper needed.
