I know a single mum from school. She's a big 4 partner. I met her for the first time at her son's 11th birthday party. I'd always assumed the nanny was the mum.
It's pretty normal to have kids who are raised by a helper in some countries. I know several folk in east asia who have kids, no partner and are depressingly successful by footloose ane fancy free standard never mind responsible for a whole family.

Think Dave's question should have had "and doesn't outsource all of the caregiving to a nanny or nannies".
