Boring Dog Question

Doggie owners!

I've always left my banana skins out to dry and then the dogs use them as a chew/treat.  Given banana's are quite good for dogs, I've never seen an issue on this.

My tenant, whose dog stole one this morning, is acting like that is a terrible thing to do.  From my point of view it is something safe and non pointy they can chew.  Google just says the normal crap.  Am I the only one who does this?  It's just re-use to me!

Never heard of this. Never done this.

He gets a frozen Kong stuffed with meat and chicken skins if he’s lucky and he hasn’t beaten up any of the local dogs recently and that’s it. Interesting idea though. Does it not give them the runs?

no, the dogs luv em and it doesn't give them the runs... I have to say though, my dogs also get the shavings from cutting the hooves of the horses and sheep... so their treats tend to be very ... ahem... natural.  they also get carrots which they chew and leave everywhere but which they carry around with pride.

It is just me then...

We used to give my old dog carrots,  I don't think that's as unusual. If the dogs like the banana skins and it's not doing them any harm, I think your tenant should STFU. ?

My dog collects pebbles.  Big ones.

I have never heard of giving banana skins, but they’re not good for humans so I assume that is why your tenant is freaking.

My dog loves apple cores but not tried her on anything banana based.

Guess the hoof cuttings are pretty similar to the bits of antler my dog loves to chew on and which keep her amused for hours.

I’m a bit more careful because my dog is small and also exceptionally greedy which makes her a choking risk. I wouldn’t let her have a banana skin as she would get bored of chewing and just try to swallow whole.

Have fed her banana though and she loves it. Basically any fruit or veg that isn’t specifically dangerous is fine - in sensible moderation for the size of dog. Mine loves apple, cucumber (beats everything), carrot peel (but not carrots)

Don’t fooking talk to me about apples.  Dear god.  My house has about twenty apple trees which my m6s from overseas think is incredible (I suppose in the way that I’ve always felt about oranges growing in the garden in my parent’s place in the algarve) and Jasper picks his own apples.

Seriously, he doesn’t take from the billions of apples on the ground, he jumps to grab his own.  I do not know why.

Tecco... there is nothing harmful in the skins of bananas.  They should pass straight through.

We always did this growing up.. Apparently it was only me then...

They dry like a slightly brittle chew but they need chewing before they swallow.

I think the dogs just like the sweetness.

Not particularly beneficial for dogs as cellulose and lignin can’t be properly digested. I agree with the neighbour, it’s pretty weird. Go get and some real meat dehydrated chews or kongs.

No to rawhide and smoked bones.
