How come you guys have ended up with such a preposterous and contemptible wally running the show?

Is the real problem that Australians treat their politicians with such loathing - I really do think it's probably the worst country in the world to be a politician, you even get referred to as a "polly" FGS - that only a total dickhead would embark on a political career in Australia?

Seeing Morrison on his walkabout during the bush fires, facing dog's abuse, I almost felt sorry for him. I mean, he's just shambolic, out of touch and totally lacking people skills isn't he. The real question is one that demands some soul searching from you guys, I think: how do you consistently end up with such shit politicians? Is it, at some level, your fault?

De Maistre said that each country gets the politicians it deserves.

I'd broadly agree with what Laz said, and make the additional observation that Oz, like the UK, now suffers from not just a polarised political system, but a pair of major parties which have completely lost touch with their traditional base: a slightly lunatic ultra-Free Trade Liberal/Conservative Party on one hand, and a dreadful Labo(u)r Party on the other which cares more about identity politics than it does about the working man and woman.

As an Australian living overseas (for quite some time) I can't believe how the countries politics has turned in to such a steaming turd. Embarrassing. Like him or loathe him Little Johnny H was the last bit of political stability the country had and now is has turning totally in to backstabbing and complete juvenile behaviour (on both sides). The public as far as I can tell lacks any respect for them as a group and I totally get why that is the case. The Scomo attempted handshake during the bushfires... just wow. He needs to go. The problem is there is just another piece of pond life next in line.

I can honestly say I did not vote for any of the fookwits running the show since Keating. Shallow, no leadership, playing to the media soundbite - but then Australia isn't alone in having ridiculous leaders. I still scratch my head at Boris and Trump.

I disagree with what Jim says about Howard. The problem with Howard is he taught the other pollies how to tell a bold faced lie and get away with it by bringing the right ring Murdoch media along with him (the Children Overboard affair) and for that I cannot forgive  the contemptible bastard.

Hi Jim! *waves*
