Tracey Harrip, a litigation partner from Allens Arthur Robinson, was hand-picked by the French president to receive a prestigious award for her role in reinforcing Franco-Australian relations.

Harrip was awarded the grand-sounding Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite at a ceremony this week thanks to her work as a member and later President of the Queensland Chapter of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce (FACC). For anyone attempting to translate using rusty school-pupil French, the honour has nothing to do with horses. It means knight of the national order and is dished out for distinguished civil and military service. It takes the form of a blue ribbon pinned to the left side of the chest (etiquette fans).

Harrip impressed the vertically challenged one with her work at the FACC, which functions as a sort of giant business networking organisation between Aussie and French big hitters, who get together for seminars and exciting-sounding "entertainment opportunities". According to Harrip "France is one of Australia's leading trade and cultural partners" especially in Queensland "given our proximity to New Caledonia".

Harrip says she's thrilled to get the award and enjoyed "promoting the dynamic relationship between Australia and France". Let's hope Sarkozy wasn't too dynamic in promoting Franco-Australian relations at the awards ceremony.
