Ty Hobson-Powell is 15. And is soon to be heading off to law school.

Whilst most 15-year-olds are at their happiest self-abusing or playing online Modern Warfare, Hobson-Powell has just graduated from the University of Baltimore. And because he doesn't want to waste any time when he could be doing due diligence, he has already applied to, and been accepted by, three law schools - Howard, William & Mary and North Carolina Central. And there's more to come - once Ty has pushed through the slog and expense of law school, he intends to go to medical school. Take that, Doogie Howser.

According to his tigerish mother Liz, Ty started speaking Chinese at age three, and began writing letters to the president whilst his kindgergarden-mates were still eating their crayons. Improbably, she adds that "ever since the age of probably 4, he's always said he wanted to be attorney general". His Twitter feed is stuffed with vignettes including "With Or Without Your Approval Or Respect, I Am A Future Leader" and "Follow Me On My Journey To The Top". Such a well-adjusted young man.

But then young university protégés tend to have a pretty checkered history. Many will remember the salutory tale of Sufiah Yusof who started at Oxford at 12, ran away at 15 citing undue parental pressure and ended up in the tabloids, exposed as a £130 an hour hooker. So Wachtell probably shouldn't be reserving a place for him just yet.
