It has been reported that two British law graduates have been arrested and held in Rio de Janeiro after claiming they'd been robbed, only for police to claim they found the "stolen" goods still in their possession.

Rebecca Turner and Shanti Simone Andrews went to police three days after arriving in Rio to report the theft of belongings worth £1,300, including a camera and laptop, which they said had been stolen on a bus journey to the city. However the police have said they were suspicious of how long it had taken the pair to report the crime and also of their "cool and calm manner". They escorted them back to their hostel where the police claim that they found the items under their beds. Turner and Andrews are now being held in police custody and, if found guilty, could be looking at up to five years in jail.

The girls' lawyer claims the whole incident is a misunderstanding, and that there was confusion about which items had been stolen.

Meanwhile, Andrews's father is flying out to Brazil clutching her law diploma: apparently there is loop hole in Brazil which allows imprisoned lawyers extra privileges.
