Insiders at Halliwells claim that the firm has butchered its Newly Qualified salary levels by up to 42%.

The firm has in the past paid its NQs £62,000 in London and £39,000 in the regions. But RollOnFriday has been told that this has been slashed to a flat rate of just £36,000. This would place the firm way at the bottom of the salary table in London. Even if it just applied to the regions, it would mean that Halliwells would be bettered by pretty much every firm apart from Pannones.

    A Halliwells NQ yesterday

RollOnFriday put the figures to Halliwells, which would only say that "NQ salary levels are not something we are going to comment on". Which at least made a nice change from the firm's usual tactic of just threatening an injunction.

But Halliwells does comment on its figures - it publishes them on its website. So why has it suddenly gone all coy? Extraordinary though it sounds, maybe this has some legs...
