Two lucky readers could represent Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, courtesy of Freshfields.

The firm is the official legal services provider to the Games. At a press party on Wednesday it announced that it had been given five wildcard places to field staff in some of the events in recognition of its work.

As well as Alex O'Connell, who is shortly to join the firm as a trainee and has earned his place in the UK fencing team, Freshfields has managed to find staff to compete in the Olympic coxless pairs and women's smallbore rifle and the Paralympic archery. But it has been unable to find anyone who could compete at an international standard in Greco-Roman wresting or wheelchair basketball.

    That's gotta hurt...

Will Lawes, Freshfields' Senior Partner, told RollOnFriday that "competing for your country at London 2012 has to be one of greatest possible honours and would be a wonderful opportunity. We urge anyone with the right skills and determination to go for it."

Any readers who are both UK citizens and lawyers (or at least connected to the law) can email [email protected] to express their interest. You clearly need to be of a high standard at these events and willing to put in significant training time. We'll pass all the applicants on to Freshfields.
