The inner workings of barristers' chambers Four New Square have been splashed across the papers after it emerged the set was being sued for discrimination.

Barrister Aisha Bijlani claims she was passed over for work because of her race. She also says that she was the victim of a campaign of discrimination led by the senior clerk, Lizzie Wiseman, and former head of chambers Roger Stewart Q.C.. And to make matters more complicated she has accused the two of having an affair.

This is not the first time the chambers has faced such charges. Back in 2000 it paid out £40,000 to a receptionist who claimed she'd been subjected to racial harassment. At that time Wiseman told The Lawyer that she was confident "there would be no such incidents in the future".

This time round the chambers declined to comment.
