An associate at Allen & Overy's London office was taken to hospital in an ambulance last week after collapsing during a deal.

Insiders at the firm say that a team of lawyers had been working very hard until the middle of the week, when the client suddenly announced that the deadline was being brought forward. It seems the added pressure may have been the final straw for one associate, who just crumpled.

After an ambulance was called, A&O was sufficiently concerned to tell the rest of the team to down tools and go home, and the client was informed that it could stick its deadline up its fundament. That's a rare event at a Magic Circle firm, albeit one that seems to have taken place a little too late.

A spokesman for A&O told RollOnFriday that "we can confirm an ambulance was called to take an employee to hospital recently and we are doing everything we can to support them and their family. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further on issues relating to an individual. This has been an upsetting incident for those involved and our focus is on supporting them as we take our people's health and wellbeing very seriously."
