A recently released survey has revealed that the big international law firms have made a major impact on young Spanish professionals and students.

35,000 young professionals and students were asked to name their ideal employer, according to a report in Expansión (the Spanish equivalent of the Financial Times). And amongst law firms, it was Allen & Overy which took home the jamón ibérico.

And it's good news for what the paper described as the other "Anglo Saxon" firms too. Which, whilst they may not tolerate a two hour lunch and post-prandial siesta, are viewed as terrific places to work. Baker & McKenzie came second in the survey, with Hogan Lovells in fourth place. Traditional Spanish powerhouses Uría Menéndez and Garrigues came third and fifth respectively.

So what is it that tempts young Spaniards to work for A&O (which currently has a single Spanish office in Madrid)? One survey respondant noted that the opportunity for exposure to "professionals from other cultures and the chance to spend time abroad" are major pulls. Reactions to the opportunity to work for A&O in Belfast were not recorded.
