We're back on our little vintage obsession at the moment - like Wayne Rooney, we love all that old usable stuff. It is, after all, very fashionable nowadays. Loads of old things are popular again - the Queen, the Hoff and errr... Brucie Forsyth. So, we're bang up to date rooting around those dusty vintage shops in the vain hope that the suits we find don't have threadbare crotch-areas. We were used to cruising Oxfams in search of something passable (whilst trying not to think what happened to the last person wearing the suit).

However, our charity shop tours are often disappointing and we're left to count the number of Bananarama 12 inches on sale in the music section (before buying them - they're collectibles after all). We needed something a little more focussed which is why we decided to pay a visit to Victory Vintage at their new shop in Whiteleys shopping centre (not exactly the shopping oasis we had hoped for).

The true victors in any vintage shop

Originally an online shop, VV is a specialist in 40's, 50's and 60's clothes collecting attractive dresses, shirts and coats (including furs). It's a treasure trove of fashionable finds across the decades. The online shop is primarily stuff for the ladies - dresses especially. However, since their move to Whiteleys, they have branched out further into a wide variety of clothes and, crucially for us, there's a big menswear section with the most silver lining being the selection of suits.

The suits aren't strictly limited to 40's-60's era so be sure to keep a keen eye out for modern cuts that can be worn to the office. Best of all, the VV crew are clearly scavengers of the highest order as they have obtained brilliant suits (often with high-end designer names) in fantastic condition (and a diverse range of sizes). We picked ourselves up a very recent Roderick Charles as well as an Ermenegildo Zegna lightweight suit that is normally priced at over £1,000. We spent less than £150 for the two.

Now, as they have been worn, they're not perfect - there's a missing button or two, but the suits are near new in all other respects. It's amazing the stuff other people throw away (again, we're trying to avoid thinking about why they did so). Instead, we're happily RoffingAboutTown dressed like someone special.
