We've been a little concerned that the old RoF Towers could do with a bit of a spruce and, as such, we've been thinking about a little re-design. For starters, the shag-pile carpet (in obligatory orange) is getting a little worn in patches - it sort of looks like the top of one of the partners we used to work for... he had a combover to beat all combovers. You could simultaneously see his head lice, dandruff and your own reflection in his polished scalp.

Not just the carpet - but there's a plentiful amount of law memorabilia that we don't use: a practising certificate, an antique horsehair wig an aunt gave us in error, a stack of Rumpole of the Bailey books and Butterworths Company Law books. We didn't even use it when we were a real lawyer - there's no hope for them now.

We've decided to put some real effort into this though and the other day we even bought ourselves a copy of Wallpaper. We also googled stuff which is how we came across Retrouvius - a purveyor of salvaged, restored and re-worked...errr... stuff. Stuff is the best description as you can find furniture, wallpaper, lamps, flooring, signs and pretty much anything else that takes their fancy including, randomly, rabbit skeletons.

Sure it was pricey, but Frank was certain his new shelving unit would be a talking point

Their website is a treasure trove of fun but, for the real benefit and experience, go and visit their den of curiosity in West London which is very much Aladdin's cave. Retrouvius are the kings of salvage and they have saved countless pieces from destruction in diverse places from all over the country - from private homes and shops to factories and renovating tube stations. They even managed to snag rusting lampshades from the parts of the Longbridge Plant - promptly re-wired and restored. There is no telling what they might find and/or create (from other vintage parts) so it really is an adventure running around their warehouse - and the staff are knowledgeable, welcoming and generally lovely - a big help whilst we're crawling over things asking what stock they have in bright orange.

More than that, if you're really pally with the Retrouvius crew, there's an interior design element to their work so we'll be relying on them completely to renovate RoF Towers in a tasteful and fashionably vintage manner - much like our relatively new website.
