The Royal Wedding has distracted us for most of the day but we wanted to just tell you that we had happily spent it drinking in a safe-haven of Britishness (that is - we were gently pickled in an old school pub with a beer garden. We're proud to be British (2nd generation y'know)).

Sat in the shadow of a fierce bastion of Britishness (Lords Cricket Ground) - or within touching distance of the shadow at least - the Clifton happily gives its patrons access to televisions for important state events, a wide selection of ales, beers and lagers that are surprisingly diverse. We happily supped on Californian ale before moving onto Singapore, Belgium, Germany and England before making a pro-longed trip to hangover land (which sadly marries itself well to a round the world beer trip).

Aside from the beers, the Clifton itself is a fantastic venue with a happy conservatory inside (along with wood fires to keep you warm in the winter), a healthy selection of board games to keep you sane on those slightly longer round-trip journeys and a quaint beer garden surrounded by some of England's (and the World's) most expensive properties. We had our eye on a place only to find it priced at £39 million. Mansions are just so pricey nowadays - we blame Fauxtons.

Finally, we reserve special mention for the food which is slightly more exciting than most pubs with the smoked mackerel salads, calamari, open sandwiches and burgers that'll make you happy Americans maintained its presence on less civilised menus. In short, get a burger, grab an ale and enjoy The Clifton's quaint surroundings - no need to wait for a Royal Wedding though.
