Drunken bravado and a motivation to preserve Wiggin’s image as the coolest law firm on the planet has led me and three of my colleagues (Shaun Lowde, Alex Lea and Ross Sylvester) to participate in the Polar Circle marathon in Greenland later this month.  The Wiggin team will complete the 26.2 miles in sub-zero temperatures on Saturday 22 October.  Most of the team have taken part in long distance running events before and the training has gone well although we’ve found it very difficult to prepare for temperatures of up to -15 even during the English summer months.

The marathon is run on the Greenland ice sheet, snow and gravel.  I had (wrongly) assumed that going would be relatively flat and had hoped to achieve the marathon in a competitive time although closer inspection of the route has revealed a few perilous ups and downs with dangers including hidden crevasses, falling ice glaciers, hypothermia and polar bears.  The team from Wiggin are undertaking the event to raise money for our chosen charity, CCP – County Community Projects.  CCP is a very small grassroots charity who carry out the most amazing work to improve the lives of children, young people and families by providing vital support to those who need it most in Gloucestershire which is where Wiggin's headquarters are based.  Wiggin is closely aligned to CCP and, as well as fundraising, our employees (including those undertaking the run) currently mentor and help teach those who attend its school.  Anyone wishing to sponsor us can leave a message of support or abuse and find out more about the run at: http://www.justgiving.com/chris-hammond0.
