Hix is quickly becoming a dining institution in London with two successful restaurants in the city already. We'll talk about the brilliant eating another time as this little entry is dedicated to one of the finest bars in London.

Based inside (and downstairs) at Hix Soho (Mark Hix's latest effort), Mark's Bar is a lounging delight in a darkened basement. It oozes style, class and relaxation as you can quaff your beverage of choice in their comfy chesterfields.

The drinks themselves are a delight with mixologists clearly well trained in the art of booze - they serve up the best cocktails in town (which is most understated - as with Hix's cooking, the secret is the use of the best ingredients).

The man himself (not at Mark's bar)

The martinis in particular are worth a try since they're often served up in halves (you drink half whilst the rest remains cooling in its own mini-ice bucket) in a random collection of glasses - don't be surprised to be sipping from an old babycham glass. If cocktails aren't your thing, there's a veritable feast of booze on offer including a fine selection of English ales.

As an environ for drinking it's incredible too - as it feels like a member's bar given its refined state. It has its quirks too (the low-slung bar being a hangover from its days as a sushi bar). Seriously - there's no better place for a lazy boozing session than here.

Aside from the drink, you should definitely try the bar menu too if you're not dining upstairs....
