If you're looking for a way to work off some of that post-Christmas paunch, you may need to look no further. Bob Nightingale, Chief Executive of the London Legal Trust, is looking for intrepid volunteers to take part in a 40 mile sponsored walk in London, raising much needed funds for invaluable advice centres.

A word from Bob on this and other scheduled walks throughout 2011:

"The "legal walk" season starts on February 19th & 20th with Walk the Thames ,  a 40 mile , 2 day trek along the Thames from the Thames Barrier to Richmond including a circuit of Richmond Park. Already 200 lawyers, including large and growing teams from SNR Denton, Allen & Overy, Linklaters and Hodge Jones & Allen  have signed up for the walk which is led by the President of the Supreme Court, Lord Phillips. Last year Walk the Thames raised £50,000 and organisers predict a sharp increase this year.

The London Legal sponsored walk is the best known of the walks and last year 4,500 walkers raised over £400,000. In addition to increased support from City firms, this year's walk on May 16th will be boosted by 650 magistrates walking as part of the 650th anniversary celebrations of their association.

Walk leaders in London in May will include the presidents of the Law Society and ILEX, as well as the Chair of the Bar Council, leading their elements of the profession. Other walk leaders include the Lord Chief Justice and the Master of the Rolls and organisers hope to raise £1/2 million this year.

Walks around the country already organised to coincide with London on May 16th include Birmingham, Nottingham, Guildford, Newbury and several in the North East of England.

Further walks including a large walk in Manchester will be held in September."

So grab your hiking boots, some kind of professional looking walking stick and please take part - it's for a great cause.
