We've mentioned our penchant for receiving meat by mail before (the excellent East London Steak Company), but actually, thinking about it, ordering all that stuff is just WAY TOO MUCH EFFORT for this time of year. After all, it's cold outside and we're using all our accumulated body fat to warm our bedsit. Thankfully, therefore, we stumbled upon Pampas Plains - a subscription service for steak. With just one order we can expect at least a quarterly delivery of fine meat for our delectation. What a time saver...

The Pampas Meat Mobile sounded like a good idea but it just wasn't well done.

And what meat it is - the best of British (Scottish) beef with it's Aberdeen Angus and Hereford breeds.... but via the plains of Argentina with their South American flair and spice. It's a long story involving migrating Scottish clans a few hundred years ago. In short, it is excellent beef put together by two quite anti-English cultures. Who knew two dislikes could make such love?

Pampas Plains is a revelation with subscriptions starting at a paltry £75 (for that we reckon you should easily get at least 10 meals worth of meat - obviously this doesn't account for your gluttony). That's just the basic package as you have three options depending on the loved one you are purchasing for - the biggest of all is the £250 subscription which delivers a different cut of succulent beef to your door each month. That's around £20 for each delivery (which includes, in December, a whole fillet of beef normally priced around £60).

Aside from the steaks you could order a plethora of other delicacies such as wine, other meats (lamb, chicken), sausages, empanadas and cheese. Basically it's like having an online fridge (though with a slightly longer wait for cooking).

That's Christmas sorted. Order now and you'll be bringing home the beef. (It's too cold to be funny).
