In the wake of the recent vicious attack upon our National Treasure (aka Prince Charles and Millsy), we were inspired by the soap-dodging chant 'off with their heads' to investigate The Old Queen's Head pub/bar in Islington. Thankfully, the junior anarchist society got it totally right with their suggestion as we were delighted with our little excursion (and not a kettle in sight).

The Old Queen's Head is a fantastic evening out as it is the model of a modern major general pubic house in so far as it caters to what we consider to be 'both ends of the spectrum'.

"From this strange and random monolith I can see the Old Queen's Head"

On the one side (and primarily in the downstairs bar) it is a gastropub extraordinaire churning out top notch British food all week long (including great brunches and a fantastic lazy Sunday selection of roasts and other items to alleviate those Sunday blues). Far removed from such fine dining, and on the opposite end of the spectrum, is the upstairs bar jam-packed with excitable people listening to hip DJ's spinning (Annie Mac) or cool bands (The Kooks, Snow Patrol, Foals) or comedians (errm Lenny Henry).

Clearly, The Old Queen's Head is full to the crown with something everyone will enjoy - a one-stop-shop of an evening out with great food, free-flowing alcohol and some cool new act sent to entertain the masses. If that wasn't enough, they normally engage in special nights for special occasions (Halloween, Chrimbo, NYE). Next time Charle and Millsy should skip the Royal Variety and come straight here.
