Belsize Park is a funny little place really. In the past we had thought that it sort of clung on to the coat tails of Hampstead trying not to let its less salubrious surroundings deter it from being a breeding ground for people in chinos and loafers to enjoy a spiffing evening out.

However, since that time, we have become more and more enamoured with the place – not least because it has, we discovered, a Daunt Books shop and an Everyman cinema – necessities, we feel, for the modern man to truly enjoy life in edgy North-West London.

Moreover, our conversion to Belsize believer has been encouraged by our own discovery of Chez Bob – an American style restaurant ensconced on the high street and huddled up to the Everyman for warmth. From brunch to supper it serves up hearty American classics to please the tastebuds and coat the arteries.

Bob - he ain't crazy. He local.

We helped ourselves to a healthy slice of bbq chicken wings and a ‘couch potato’ burger special which, to be honest, was ambitious but not extra special – tasty all the same though. The sweet potato fries were also something of a revelation as they’re supposed to be a healthy alternative to normal frites, right? They definitely tasted healthier. The 'famous' bbq ribs are also worth a shout - though it should be taken on between two as it looked a beast of a meal.

For dessert we treated ourselves to a cornflake milkshake made fresh before our engorged eyes. It was possibly the best breakfast we had ever had – and that’s even taking into account our brief affair with Ricycles.

The meal was a real stuffing and we wouldn’t want to over-eat here too much, but it’s definitely a new favourite of ours. Perhaps when we summon up the effort to return to the Everyman we’ll plump here for a pre-theatre milkshake.

Also, an honourable mention must go to their brunch which is, by all accounts, the best brunch in NW London. We’ve yet to find out for ourselves, but we trust our respected eaters.
