WTF? How are people still doing this?

Surely it’s not something you require training on in this day and age? People with different coloured skin, accents, dress and religion might still be from the UK and be as British as you are you racist prat!

Fair point EP but it doesn’t make Lady Hussey or her ilk any less racist. What’s worth noting of course is that if you’re white middle class and don’t play into the hands of these sorts of characters they get just as angry. Thick and aggressive gonna thick and aggressive.

I was at some training bollocks about this stuff and most of it was shite but one thing hit home: it's not really ok to be vocally curious about someone's "heritage", it's "othering" to ethnic minorities and you run the risk of pissing your questionee off.

Leaving aside the latest developments as to Ms Fulani/Headley's origins - it needs to be noted that one can also "other" oneself.  If you decide to have a face full of piercings or tattoos, or style your hair in a mohawk, or suit up in full "postbox" attire, for instance, you are quite consciously setting yourself apart from the mainstream of our society.  You are "othering" yourself.  And I am totally fine with folks non-conforming (although must admit to some reservations about the full-on burqa in a Western society) but "othering" yourself and then being pissed off at folks' reaction does not seem terribly reasonable. Note: things outside of one's control, ie. skin colour, are different.

Moving someone's hair is very rude no matter what their heritage but I imagine she didn't realise the particular cultural taboos around touching the hair of back women.

What are you meant to ask if you're genuinely interested in someone recent AND LESS RECENT heritage?

The more I think about this the more I conclude that normal people don’t want any part of this debate any longer because we’ll just get targeted by one side or the other for whatever they can make of us. That’s the hollowed out middle effect. Sorry kids, you’re on your own.

Charity has suspended operations due to safety concerns.  By no means the fact they have now been placed under public scrutiny and some serious questions are being asked.

Charity to be wound up in 6 months time with a Charity Commission investigation pending, by any chance?

The more that comes out about Ngozi Fulani aka Marlena Headley the more it's quite apparent she has culturally appropriated her African identity.
