One was not for dishonesty, just silliness and slapdashery (unfortunately it involved client money, so automatic disqualification as far as the SRA is concerned). Silly boy.
The other was for being caught up in a targeted, sophisticated and complex fraud (in which he was an unwitting participant). Poor guy. There but for the grace of god and all that.
Not someone I knew well but I once worked with a chap who was later struck off for dishonesty/fraud, which came as no surprise at all as he was a shifty little fvcker
and I once did some work for a solicitor/property developer wearing his developer hat who was later struck off for using his firm’s client account as project finance
No. I did know someone who was shytcanned as an MC partner for alleged sexual assault (I think he was never prosecuted) but the firm in those days was more about sweeping under the carpet and settling claims than due process...

Can't believe Barbara got 2 years for effectively not being a whistleblower. That's absurd.
Yep, some former instructing solrs. And they were not, by and large considered 'shamed' in the particular circumstances. After the property crash, there was a rash of litigation by building societies and banks, hitting provincial conveyancing solicitors who had accepted undertakings from colleagues and completed conveyances without doing enough checking. Some of those turned into striking-offs, where the solr didn't do it for their own benefit, didn't get a benefit, and had just been a bit too trusting.

Yes, worked with a partner that was struck off for some *indecency*. Shame, he was a nice guy (a bit weird) and a proper old skool lawyer.

I spoke to someone who worked with Hugh Wotherspoon (look him up) and they said the same thing. Really nice guy.
