Spending controls were meant as a way to stop clubs running themselves into bankruptcy. FFP is a distortion of that - it's just a weapon the traditional big clubs used to try and block new competition.
A bloo bloo bloo the oil sheik is cheating by spending more than we can raise from our preferred East Asian paint supplier, it's so unfair.
I agree, the FFP plans were just a way of pulling up the drawbridge and stop clubs being the next PSG / Man City
That said, the rules were in place and City broke them. They should be punished heavily imo - relegation to the third division would send an appropriate message.
A club like Bayern, recipient of a massive and suspiciously under-priced equity injection from Allianz and numerous other overly-generous sponsorship deals from major German firms, getting annoyed by City is laughable.
At best whataboutery, at worst completely different situation.
Not that i matters given that City will shortly fook off to a european super league which isn't governed by UEFA where presumably they won't have to hide their status of being the plaything of a sovereign nation.
heh. why would they be tbf. They're not close to being in the same league as the other clubs based on success, finances etc. A brief run of finishing in the top 4 doesn't make you a top club (as Newcastle proved in the late 90s / early 00s)
It would be great if those mega clubz all pissed off and left the rest of us to get on with enjoying football on a reasonably level playing field. The standard would drop but im not sure anyone would give a fook.
Be surprised if it happens Wellers; it would legally be very difficult - all the clubs from the different leagues would need to synchronise it; and all the TV/merchandising deals the clubs are locked into have different end dates in Spain/Italy/France/Germany etc.
I'd be surprised if it happened too. Real, Barca, Juve and Bayern are desperate for it to solidify their position against the Premier League, but the benefits are much less obvious for the English clubs.
I haven’t checked yet but presumably the big clubs cut of champions league revenue is up for discussion again, hence the umpteenth wheel out of the European super league idea.
Couldnt agree more about immediate relegation of city however, almost exclusively to see what would happen to Tom Linorder on here.

Who honestly didn't think this was going to happen when the FFP rules were brought in?
"How much are we short?"
"9 million"
"My brother's wife's cousin's uncle would like a season ticket but will only sit on a red coloured seat"
"Oh, we could do that but it would be so special we would have to charge 10 million"
"Agreed!"

I'd be shocked if it didn't happen tbh.
Hope City fans are looking forward to watching matches at 1am to work with the Asian TV audience etc and playing occasional home games in Hong Kong

City’s sponsorship deals are arguably very undervalued

Don’t need to add anything to what pancakes said. Nothing to see here, move along.

Points deduction and a ban from champions league imo.

As a citeh fan I couldn’t give 2 fooks about a UCL ban
interesting politics in this given our owners and their support of a revamped FIFA clubs tournament

What pingu said. I’m perfectly relaxed about it. It’s clear this has come from the same vested interests who dreamt up ffp in the first place.

True, ffp won’t matter once you fvck off to the European mega league and play half your games in Doha and the rest US

That’s the point tho Wellerz....we won’t. we are backing the world rather than euro version......

Could have deducted 19 points from us last season tbf and we’d stll have won the title.

UEFA talking about a potential ban for Citheh.
not that many of the city fans will care given their apparent dislike for the competition.
I suspect it'll never happen, city will throw a load of lawyers at the situation and uefa will back down.
