- the shareholders are the government and the customers do not fund the Beeb directly and voluntarily, and
- the government has decided to target enemies of the state and if the BBC is collateral damage then so be it
so this results in damage to the BBC brand over the next few years which the government will likely not just refuse to stop, but will probably also accelerate for political reasons
what it probably also means is that when Labour get into power they may feel justified in taking a right wing institution of some kind and targeting it in revenge

As it is they are being made to look total arses, football coverage is trashed and Lineker will no doubt end up at a rival.
I don't think that labour will do anything of the sort. They'll purge the obvious Tory plants at the beeb and replace with sensible people and the right will howl about bias because they are melts.
