A law firm has responded to a student's job application, just five years too late.

Back in 2008 Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP received an application from a fresh-faced law student for a position in its Toronto office. On Tuesday the firm's HR department got in touch to let them know that everything was proceeding smoothly:

The candidate has since replied that unfortunately she's no longer looking for a placement. In fact, in the intervening years she's become a senior associate at another firm and moved continent.

RollOnFriday was leaving instructions for its robot employees of the future to publish Blakes' response when a spokeswoman said "What happened this week was a computer error and we have sent an acknowledgement and apology to all of the recipients. We are investigating the source of the error".

My personal favourite was Bhatia Best (a shonky law firm from Nottingham) writing to me at my law firm to tell me that they would not be taking forward my training contract application.

I hadn't ever applied to them. They must have known I already had a training contract as the address said "trainee solicitor".

I'm still waiting to hear from Dentons (as they then were) how I got on at my interview back in 1994....

I'm still waiting for a training contract with Rowe & Maw after my interview in 1992. Good thing that Linklaters didn't make me wait so long and I'll have been qualified for 17 years in September!
