A barrister has lost his appeal after he was fined £1,500 for sending an offensive email.
'Kray'* was an employed barrister working for the Essex office of the law firm David Phillips & Partners. In 2011 he took exception to one of the firm's partners, Rebecca Blain, being parachuted in from the firm's Liverpool office. After an argument about some work allocation, he sent an email to a couple of pupils and a paralegal at his firm saying "she comes down onto our manor, mugging us off, we should open her up. I don't just mean a little stab in the leg, I mean do the c*nt".

A tribunal held that Kray had brought the profession into disrepute and fined him £1,500. Kray appealed, and on Wednesday the Visitors to the Inns of Court told him to sling his hook, unanimously agreeing that it was a "clear case in which the Appelant's conduct was likely to bring the bar into disrepute".
A spokesman for the BSB said that he was pleased that the judgment "confirmed the Bar Standards Board’s original view" that his "behaviour was disrespectful and entirely unacceptable".
*ROF has amended this article on 18/4/23 to anonymise the barrister, as it's been a decade.
