Azuma trains

I am not all that impressed tbh

tbf I was predisposed not to be impressed because I am only on it thanks to ba cancelling our flight

but the toilets are shyte and it feels quite grubby for a new(ish) train

it is warmer than the ones with the roll down window when thea/c goes off but the TOILETS MY GOD

trying to decide whether to fly or train next week. I think unimpeded liquids win it.

Travelling in standard class seems an upgrade from the older trains – much better legroom and more comfortable, but has stiff ironing board seats - not far off the Thameslink ironing board seats, which are the pits.

First class seems to be a step backwards – much less comfortable seats and less legroom. It’s not possible to fit the comfy leather seats used in the outgoing trains into the Azuma – they can be retrofitted to existing trains, but cannot be fitted into new trains in order to comply with the necessary regulations.

agreed, first class feels less special on the azumas because the seats, while generously sized and quite comfortable, are less plush, the decor is generally less different from what you'd expect in a stanndard class coach and, in particular, they don't have the soft lighting that the old first class coaches used to have. The tables are great though, absolutely huge. But finished in unspecial material.
