I learned mad shit about monopoly this week: hen you play, if a player lands on a square and doesn't buy it you are supposed to auction it off to other players!
In asnwer to clergs tho, there are some good ones in the app store (not board games, but things like movie quizzes, etc, where you put the phone on your head, etc)
Bobby Fischer invented it but it’s basically chess and you randomise the back row.
Its good because if you’re someone who grew up playing a lot of chess you get frustrated with people playing ‘book chess’ where they play from openings they’ve read in books and in chess360 you are playing the person from the start. I love it and it’s the only way I play chess now
Risk yawn. Much as I love it if you don’t have a few people absolutely dedicated to it then it quickly becomes a tedefest for those who aren’t really into it.

If you’re doing a game over dinner with non-gamers:
Spyfall or Ultimate Werewolf
If you’re just trying to show people that board games can be fun:
Whitechapel
If you have an evening:
Fief
If you have a day:
Twilight Imperium (4th edition)
If you have a month:
Pandemic Legacy
