Stand alone: Hard to say as I love so many. V v much enjoyed Le Gavroche. There is a restaurant in France in [departement] I’ve eaten at a few times which is absolutely ADORE. I love beautifully presented fancy food that tastes DELICIOUS. Also Heft in Cumbria.
Pinkus - yep its in Milton and is the a pretty odd non-descript place from the outside, and then like someone's dining room inside. Food is decent and it reminds me of special occasion dinners growing up. Used to go to the 'Flute de Paris' for steak too on Dad's birthday. Both dated places, but decent grub by honest local folk.
Hussains is still there on Orchard street. Was the Japanese place Sakura?
shit service at noble rot. if I have booked a table I expect that table to be ready, definitely not told to go away and come back 30 minutes after booking.
nachomama’s in Rock Hill, MO. you can keep all your fancy stuff; if I am there it means I am with the people I love the most in the world and am going to have a great time
This is a hard question. There are so many contenders. In London I think Cafe du Marche is still top of the pile for me even though it simply isn't as nice as it was since they expanded the main restaurant.
I had a really nice lunch in 45 Jermyn Street just pre-pandemic. Was on my own in that part of town and a bit grumpy after a meeting on a wet Monday afternoon and wondered in on a whim. Sat at the bar and ate oysters and fish pie washed down with a couple of glasses of decent white. Cheered me up no end.

Judo I've never been there because I don't really like shop restaurants. Pure prejudice; I'll give it a go.
Guy: I havne't been to Gidleigh Park since Michael Caines days. Back then it was certainly v good indeed.
Mine was the Star at Harome. In London: St John.

I’m with Pinkus. Harvester, spoons, pizza express. Love it. Cheap and cheerful and no fuss. I don’t want a bloody foam or emulsion on my plate.

my fave thing is the 45 Jermyn Street caviar trolley, but I can only go for the min amount.

Does WSM still have that nice Japanese place? Seem to recall a good Indian called Hussains, too.

The Star in Harome was fantastic and hopefully will arise like a Phoenix.
The Jugged Hare is a cracker in late Autumn.
St John I love intellectually and always a good meal, but can be a bit outre.
And I’m a total sucker for anywhere that does decent dim sum.

Martin Wishart in Leith is the single best place I’ve been to.
Used to do fancy restaurants fairly regularly. Now more likely to be found having a cheeky Nando’s.

Tjöruhúsið a fish restaurant in Ísafjörður…
…so rustic but the fish is straight from the boat and the sauce concoctions are divine dahlink.

If you like a trolley then bring forward your visit to Wiltons, carving trolley at lunch and Sat evenings (beef wellington on a saturday)

I do actually plan a Wiltons lunch quite soon. A serious one with white burgundy and claret. And a whole trolley, served on the rocks.

Noble Rot gave me a dodgy belly when I went.
Any recommendations on what to have for a light lunch at 45 Jermyn Street?
