A 39-year-old accountant has been convicted of beating up a Freshfields associate.

Graham Carr, who was recently made redundant by KPMG, assaulted the associate at the depressingly appropriately named Punch Tavern on Fleet Street last June. In the unprovoked attack Carr repeatedly punched the associate in the face before leaving the scene. The associate needed medical treatment, and Carr was subsequently arrested and charged with assault.

This week Carr was sentenced to 110 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £500 costs after pleading guilty to causing actual bodily harm. 110 hours? That's just a standard working week at KPMG. And a £500 fine for a City professional for smashing someone's face in? There's an effective deterrent...

A spokesman for Freshfields said that the associate had recovered and hadn't needed to testify. He added that the matter was now at a close, and that the associate "is looking to put these events behind him and move on".
