Supreme Court say the same I’m afraid. It’s the running theme in one of the leading authorities on why we don’t go behind jury verdicts once they’re delivered.
Trials already are an ordeal. For the advocates as well as defendants. It’ll just get worse as the funding gets less. It’s 7.44 and I’m already at court working. I worked until 10 last night. I woke up worrying about my trial at 4. I’m in a courtroom with no natural light so, because of the early starts and late ends, I barely see daylight in the week. This routine will continue until it ends in a few weeks. And countless others do the same for shit pay to keep the system on the rails and to make sure miscarriages don’t happen.
So yeah, the ordeal is happening and it’ll get worse. Not sure it’ll make good tv though. We all look like shit through lack of sleep.
Viewers are left outraged as Sir Cliff Richard tells Loose Women he'd rather 10 guilty people go free than one innocent person suffer after he was wrongly accused of historical sex offences
The 78-year-old veteran singer made the controversial remark on Loose Women
my emphasis
this never used to be a controversial remark, the idea that 10% of the prison population should be innocent people wrongly jailed kind of shows the sort of person who watches loose women
Sumo makes a good point. The audience is made up almost solely of women who, I suspect, refer to their partners as “hubby” when being affectionate and “oh him” when not. Those who also liberally use the term “hun” on social media whilst posting memes of cats and declaring their support for Farage.
Not sure if we are speaking at cross purposes here Clerghs.
My point is that Blackstone's ratio has always been controversial with the hard of thinking and the newspapers that pander to them. That is nothing new.
With the likes of TMPM in power I guess we should be fearful though.
I am interested that all three of you accepted the mail's pretence that they represented "viewers" rather than their own take. This was their top story when I saw it. The psychological impact is impressive.

So do you reckon funding cuts make the revival of trial by ordeal more or less likely? They could sell tickets.

I once heard that pedophiles are using an area of the internet the size of Ireland to prey on children...

Well true, cc. But I do think it's risky that nobody is saying hang on remember the Maguire 7 who are literally also in this paper.
