I think this actually makes some sense but it shows an astonishing lack of political nous. It also assumes that all countries are capable of a meaningful vaccine deployment which hasn’t been the case at all with African countries wasting Covax doses.

The WHO lost all credibility with the China exoneration/whitewash. As a fan of international institutions designed to do good, this makes me sad.

WHO haven’t really covered themselves in glory since the start.
Extending the 2nd jab from 3 weeks to 12 was going to be risking thousands of deaths, and re-opening UK from 19 July would be a crime against humanity.

If the jabs actually work as claimed then in theory this seems sensible.
Lots of vaccine is being wasted here too. There were calls the other day to let 16 yr old have the jabs because we were about to bin 200k doses of moderna.

It is not fair to blame WHO for the China report.
As many of us know from experience, if you draft the terms of reference of an investigation you control the possible outcomes. China refused to let the WHO investigation into the country unless it followed China’s proposed TOR. WHO had a choice between no local evidence gathering or accepting China’s TOR.
The WHO report was very clear that it did not rule out the Lab theory. With the evidence available, it said all that could be said.
