Which MP will you miss when they leave the public sphere?

For me it's Soubs. She's always been a reliable source of inspiration to me.

soubs

Don't bet on Ken Clarke being rolled out for too long. He's 80 in July and not exactly a poster boy for healthy living. Having been an MP since he was 29 he may become bereft when he leaves the Commons, and as a relatively recent widower too he may succumb to the quick death all too common of late retirees.

I don't think I will miss any of the departing MPs. politics should be dynamic.

I am a massive fan of first past the post. But my only criticism is that it does result in MPs sitting in safe seats for decades. I'm not sure it's good for the conservative party to have N Soames as an MP for almost 40 years - to take one example....or for dennis skinner still to be an MP at a his age (although he at least has an unusual back story )

Heidi Allen.

I’ve net her, as a good friend of mine stood against her in 2015 and 2017. She is pleasant and much too sensible to be a Johnson Tory so I can see why she quit. She is outspoken and good value.

Ken Clarke of course.

On the Labour side, Big Tom is a personal hero, and I also like Ed Miliband tbh

Funnily enough I seem to have social connections with a number of female Tory MPs. I used to know Helen Whateley well, but I haven’t seen her since she was elected. A friend of mine also stood against Gove in Surrey Heath once.

Now that I’m a Lib Dem I might even get selected to stand a seat myself one day...
