Been, but not for a while. Very boujie including things like heated pathways in the village. Good ski area, in particular the back bowls if the snow is good they permit a good amount of in bounds, lift serviced, unpisted skiing. Will be expensive for a lift ticket. If you are doing a week there you may as well check how much it would cost for a season pass as the day tickets are eye-watering. On the subject of passes it is worth checking if it includes days at any of the nearby mountains. Might be possible to do a day somewhere like Beaver Creek or Breckenridge for some variety. I don't think A Basin is with the same pass company anymore.
Apres is much as you would expect in the US so not up to European standards. A few words of caution regarding going in Feb. It will be proper cold. Also check if your timing aligns with college spring break as the place will be a lot busier which could be good or bad depending on your view. Better apres maybe, but more queuing for lifts and crowded slopes.
Last time I rented an apartment which I think was in Lionhead where a couple of the major base lifts are. The village is pretty much all hotels and apartments. if you want more of a chalet experience you'll probably have to look at somewhere like west vail and get transport in.
You can fly into nearby Eagle Vail airport, but to be honest it is a fairly easy drive from Denver.
It's good, but not my preference among the CO mountains.
if you live in Europe, ski in Europe. You don't get anything more imo for double the price and travel times going long haul. Put the wedge into a nice European boutique resort.
Honestly if given the choice I would prefer to go to Japan. Niseko is a great resort for varying standards. Good infra and slopes. Lot of english spoken around the place. Unfortunately the reason for this is the number of Aussies who will be there.
Well so would we prefer Japan but it's a much longer and more expensive flight and we were there in August anyway. Looking like Whistler-Blackcomb ATM.

Thanks blindtom. My wife has just discovered exactly how butt-rapingly expensive Vail is so is now investigating Calgary and Japan options.

Cloud Nine is a good run for easy skiing with lots of trees.

Well I live in Grand Cayman, and my wife is Japanese, so...
I've put plenty dolla into European ski resorts over the years, anyway.
